- ±12 Why the world love whales
- ±13-------------------------------------

-
- ±11The international society is
- practicly in WAR with Norway. The
- reason is simple: Should whaling be
- allowed or banned? This sounds
- pretty drastic, but if you've been
- paying attention to the newspapers
- lately, you couldn't have missed the
- debate that goes on. I'll try to
- explain some views on this matter,
- both from american and norwegian
- points of view.
-
- In U.S.A hardly anybody can
- understand the norwegian points of
- view. It is of course the
- ±12"Disney-Tradition"±11 which has caused
- this need to care about animals.
- Especially for dogs and large animals
- in the sea. Examples for this are
- TV-series like "Flipper", the movie
- "Lassie" etc.
-
- The differences between the U.S.A and
- countries like Norway, Island and
- Japan are greater than you would
- normally imagine. In Norway this
- debate is easily becoming too
- oriented about facts, while in the
- U.S.A the attitudes and the values
- are much more important.
-
- Organizations like Greenpeace make a
- lot of money by fighting this "global
- environmental war". The Central
- Intelligence Agency in U.S.A is
- running Greenpeace, thus making a lot
- of cash. When they have won their
- war against whales, they will try to
- make a war to protect some other
- animal.
-
- Personally I'm positive about the
- whale-hunting, because it's proven
- that there are planty of whales. The
- fact that whales eat all the fish in
- the sea is also a reason. But untill
- the internation comunity is READY to
- listen to reason, I think Norway
- should wait. Saving a few hundred
- unemployed people isn't worth being
- "freezed" out of the co-operation
- between countries all over the world.
-
- I find it rather strange that some
- demonstrants in e.g. U.S.A. use
- banners who say: "Japan, Iceland and
- Norway are butchers of the high
- seas." Have they forgotten that
- American citizens hunt the whale too?
- The eskimoes have hunted whales since
- "who knows when!" Have they got some
- global special-agreement concerning
- the rights to use natural
- resources???
-
- It would be nice to hear what people
- in countries that are AGAINST
- whale-hunting would like to say, or
- vica versa of course! Remember:
- without your respond this
- debate-corner will be of no value.
- Therefore I strongly recommend that
- you publish an article in this
- diskmag.ç
